Sales Rain Contributes to the Community Pantry Movement

Sales Rain Contributes to the Community Pantry Movement

The year-long COVID-19 Pandemic has clearly turned many lives upside down. Presently, countless families continue to struggle with the limited access to healthcare, employment, public transportation, and food systems. While these unprecedented impacts are affecting millions of people around the world, the poorest of the communities and those who are less fortunate will likely suffer longer-lasting poverty and deprivation.

Recently, Community Pantry: an idea that was brought to life by purpose and kindness, has become a trend initiated by the person named Ana Patricia Non with her first-ever bamboo cart on a sidewalk of Maginhawa Street, Quezon City. The cart was filled with essential items and groceries where homeless people could get them for free. This initiative has gone viral across multiple social media platforms and inspired a lot of people. Since then, many groups have begun donating and placing their own community pantries nationwide to help reach out to poor families.

During the early days of the Community Pantry movement, Sales Rain’s CEO Rajeev Agarwal took the initiative for the poor by planning and organizing a donation drive to support our less privileged fellow Filipinos during this pandemic times. Led by the company’s Admin and Facilities Manager, Mr. Seattle Castuciano and Digital Marketing and Presales Manager, Ms. S.R. Payba, the team extended a helping hand in looking for new community pantries that are just starting to gather donations to further help by giving out essential goods.

In coordination with Thames International School in Eastwood City and Amare La Cucina in Kapitolyo, Pasig City community pantries, Sales Rain has donated rice, trays of eggs, boxes of tuna, sardines, packs of chicken noodles, coffee, and crackers. The team also assisted the organizers in setting up the pantry last Saturday, April 24, 2021.

Many people, mostly senior citizens, were already in line 3 to 4 hours before the opening in order to feed themselves and support their families. After a few minutes, all donations were taken up by over hundreds of individuals with a smile on their faces and enough food on their hands to help them get through this difficult time.

This momentary but meaningful experience gave a sense of inspiration to its employees by making the world a better place by helping other people.

Sales Rain, together with the support of everyone in the company will continue to organize charity events and donation drives with a goal to contribute to the community in the ways we know how.

Share-a-CPU: Sales Rain Distance Learning Community Project

Share-a-CPU: Sales Rain Distance Learning Community Project

This year has been very challenging and tough for most of us, with people being ordered to stay in their homes and companies facing pressure to adopt and readjust their operations for the sake of mitigating the spread of the virus.  This COVID-19 pandemic has caused a drastic impact on the majority of the people around the world and has clearly altered the normal way we navigate daily life.

Not only the national economy and tourism industry have suffered severe loss and damage. The education sector has been experiencing unfortunate circumstances, as well, because of the ongoing pandemic. Currently, huge portions of courses are being delivered online, as face-to-face teaching is still restricted for most of the schools and universities. Faculties, administrators, and most importantly, students are now being required to switch to online schooling, which posed a challenge for those with limited or no computer access.

On the other hand, Sales Rain firmly believes that proper and good education has the power to change a life and contribute a positive impact to the world. Even in these trying times and given the many challenges presented by this pandemic, helping others remain our priority. We have always taken a genuine interest in our community with a goal in our minds to continuously provide assistance to people at times of need.

With the start of the new school year last August, wherein schooling is still being handled remotely in the Philippines as a precaution, Sales Rain’s “Share-a-CPU” community project was initiated to donate and distribute 200 central processing units (CPU) to students or faculties. This “Share-a-CPU” donation drive will let them gain access to a device so that they can continue their education at home. Employees from different departments worked together in facilitating the campaign and finding recipients to better equip them for distance learning.

Students who received donations from Sales Rain will keep each respective CPU, permanently, to support them in their educational journey beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. The multiple batches of recipients were individuals with family members who are facing challenges with the computer requirements for online classes.

The truth is, a lot has changed in the world around us in recent months, and we don’t know what the future will look like. But, we believe that if we position ourselves to focus on the needs of our community, approach these challenges in the right way, use our resources effectively, and extend our blessings to help those in need, these actions can result in the improvement of someone else’s life.

It doesn’t matter how physically fit our bodies are if we do not have peace and tranquility within our life. It is best to nurture ourselves with something that inspires us to be a better person like giving and caring for others.

At Sales Rain, we are passionately engaging in philanthropic activities. We also encourage others to go out and plant seeds of kindness through helping others, especially those in the marginalized sector.

Another fantastic event took place in Antipolo City as Sales Rain hosted an outreach program in Kanlungan ni Maria last October 19, 2019.

Kanlungan Ni Maria, Antipolo City

The clientele of the institution are senior citizens who are poor, abandoned, homeless, sick, and elderly, who have no immediate family and relatives to look after them.

We were greeted warmly as one of the lolas presented a special song for us. Afterwards, lolos and lolas sang and danced along with our performance of the famous “Manok na Pula”, “Kiss Me, Kiss Me”, and the classic “Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko”. Joy and laughter filled the air when Nanay Pina, one of the elderly residents, pulled out witty jokes and cheesy pick-up lines. After our short program, we talked, ate,  and interacted with the elederlies to make them feel that they are loved and cared for. We also prepared food for the residents. We also observed that one of the lolos would not eat if his friend, one of the other resident, does not have his own food. He told us that he would wait for the other lolo so that they can share and eat their food together.

In addition, we donated grocery items, laundry and toiletry supplies for the the home. The positive energy was so contagious – everyone left the place with a smile and the willingness to participate in more charity events.

The Aetas are one of the eight major groupings of Indigenous People that can be found in the Philippines. The groupings – composed of the Negritos of Luzon, Igorots, Mangyans, Tribes of Palawan, Ati, Tribes of Panay, Lumads and Bajaos – are futher subdivided into more than 100 ethno-linguistc groups spread out across over 60 percent of the country’s provinces.

IP groups like the Aetas suffer in extreme poverty due to numerous reasons like ownership issues of ancestral lands, absence of sustainable source of livelihood, good education and natural calamities caused by typhoons just to name a few. Communities like the aforementioned are usually small and would often depend on donations and outreach programs by different organizations.

Sales Rain has made it a priority of the company to actively participate and contribute in improving the overall well-being of the country for everyone – and that includes the often times neglected IP groups and ethnic minorities.

The event was organized with the goal of giving the children the education that they deserve. According to the 2016 Annual Poverty Indicators Survey (Apis), Philippines has about 3.8 out-of-school children and youth ranging from as early as 6 years old to 24 years old. The company firmly believes that education is one of the most powerful weapon in fighting poverty and by helping kids get the education they deserve, we are helping shape a generation of future scholars.

According to Mr. Billy Espina, “We don’t need expensive or beautiful notebooks in order to learn, all we need is the willingness of the mind and heart”. Inspiring the children and teachers that as long as we have the will, there is always a way – a philosophy that Sales Rain embeds into its employees and company values.

In addition to this, the event gave a change of scenery to its employees in hopes of inspiring them to work harder in making a difference to its community.

Sales Rain will continue to extend its blessing to those in need and give a helping hand in shaping a better future for the younger generation, with the support of everyone from the company.
